Yesterday, after I posted my response to Matt Chev…’s blog post – Measuring Your Blogs Success-Its Not All About Numbers, I did a lot of thinking and soul searching about the direction my blogging and blog needs to take for me to consider it successful.
After sleeping on it and then thinking about what I actually want from my blogs. I came to the understanding that I need two different blogs with different goals/objectives and audiences.
- A personal blog that has my thoughts on politics, current events, things that I am doing like kayaking, running, hiking or things that some people will have no interest in whatsoever. It will be the catch-all for many of my thoughts.
- A more focused blog that will have reviews of web applications/software/hardware from someone with over 30 years of end user experience, some career growth stuff and my personal experiences with things I should be doing to be better in my professional and personal life. Hopefully, at times the two areas I plan to focus on will overlap from time-to-time and that what I write will be informative to the reader.
Was this an easy decision – no but in fairness to someone who doesn’t want the level of personal information that will be provided on “My Thoughts”, they can check out my new blog:
I had a really difficult time coming up with a name for my new blog (all the great ones are taken), but I believe that this name fits, because it gives readers idea that I am looking at things differently than I have in the past and providing information from a different perspective than they usually get. We will see.
It does mean that I will be more sporadic in my posting, as I will be splitting my efforts between two blogs, but that is okay. I think that the quality will be better and the readers will get more what they want.
Those are my thoughts, what are yours? Please leave a comment, so I will know your thoughts.
